Mens Skin Care 101

December 30, 2014 2 min read

skincare 101Its the new year and my resolution is to "go back to the basics". Not only does this statement have a nice sound to it ... it makes a lot of sense when it comes to mens skin care.

The whole idea behind Matte For Men is that we wanted to take the "mystery" and confusion out of caring for a man's skin (Lord knows that if you look at all the 100's of items some companies try to sell you,  it's impossable NOT to get frustrated when trying to figure out what is best for your skin). By the way...we only offer ten products for that very reason.

So...in the spirit of "de-mystifying" mens skin care, there are really only TWO things it is absolutely necessary for you to remember ... take a moment to prepare yourself ... clear your mind ... concentrate .... and here they are:

Cleanse and Moisturize

Got it? Any questions? See...really not that complicated. Ok, Ok...seems too simple? Please allow me to expound a bit ...

Cleanse: Cleaning your face does two things that are important in the care of your skin. First, it will help remove dirt and oil that can clog pores. Hopefully I don't need to explain the difference between what clean skin and dirty skin feels like. The other thing cleansing your skin does, is it helps remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin ... which can lead to your skin looking dull and dry. The smart folks call this "exfoliating". Remember to use a cleanser/soap that isn't too harsh on your skin as this will strip it of its natural oils and lead to irritation.

Try using Matte For Men Handcrafted Natural Cleansing Bar, Matte For Men Complete Cleansing Cloths, and/or Matte For Men Antioxidant Daily Facial Cleanser for the "cleansing" portion of your routine.

Moisturize: Immediately after washing your face, moisturize it. Do it automatically. Don't over-think it...it is one of the most critical things you need to do if you truly want your skin to look and feel its best now and in years to come. My suggestion is to use an oil-free moisturizer when your skin is slightly damp. This will help "lock in" the crucial moisture that your face needs. I highly recommend using 2 types of moisturizers...one formulated for day time conditions (when UV rays are attacking your skin) with an SPF of at least 25, and one formulated for night time use when your skin repairs itself and UV isn't as much of an issue.

The two products that fit this bill nicely are Matte For Men Complete Face Care Lotion with SPF 30 and Fixx Advanced Repair Moisturizer.

So if you can only remember just two things that will help your skin the most, they should be "cleanse" and "moisturize".

***Please note that we are assuming you already know that getting enough sleep, eating a well-balanced diet, exercising, and not smoking all play major roles in your overall well-being ... including that of your skin.
